Dental bone grafting is a procedure we may recommend to add volume to weak areas of the jawbone due to tooth loss, gum disease, or trauma. At Hite Family Dentistry, we may also use it to preserve the socket after a tooth extraction, maintaining the bone structure for future implant placement.
What to Expect During Bone Grafting
After a thorough examination to determine if you're a good candidate, we place bone material into the weak area of the jaw. This material can come from your body, a donor, or synthetic sources.
After we place the graft, the healing process begins. Over several months, the graft integrates with your existing bone, creating a strong, stable foundation.
We'll monitor your progress during healing, and once healed, the site will be ready for implant placement.
Sinus Lifts for Upper Jaw Implants
Our dentists may recommend a sinus lift, also called sinus augmentation, if there is insufficient bone height in the upper jaw to place an implant. When the sinus floor is too close to the jaw or insufficient bone, this procedure creates the space needed for implant placement.
During a sinus lift, our dentist gently raises the sinus membrane and then places bone graft material in the newly created space.
At Hite Family Dentistry, our dentists will do everything to make implant placement possible for you. Please call our Edwardsville, IL, dental office to schedule a consultation.
